Take & Make: Rainbow Melted Crayon Art

Make a work of art inspired by the book Red: A Crayon’s Story by Michael Hall. Using canvas and crayons, we’ll create rainbow artwork to celebrate identity, self-acceptance, and Pride Month. 


Sign up for your kit at https://cityofpasadena.libwizard.com/f/crayon while supplies last. Sign-ups begin on June 1. Kits can be picked up at Hastings Branch Library. For ages 10+.


You will receive an email when the kits are ready for pickup. On that email, we will also indicate a "pick up by date," which will be approximately two weeks from the date of the email. If you do not pickup your reserved kits by that date, we will release the kits. Thank you for your understanding.

Sashiko Embroidery: Beginners Workshop

Learn the art of Sashiko in this beginner embroidery class on Zoom. Sashiko is a traditional Japanese technique, originally used to repair and reinforce fabric. It uses geometric repetitions and a simple running stitch to create stunning patterns. In this class we will learn the basic techniques, hand stitch on fabric squares, and assemble them into coasters.

Out of the Pantry: Cooking Class for Teens

Cook up a tasty dish with ingredients from the pantry. To celebrate Asian American Heritage Month, we’ll be learning about and making yaki udon, stir fry noodles. For teens.

Supplies are available for pickup from Hastings Branch Library

Ingredients included in the pickup kit (or you can get your own):

  • 1 pack dry udon noodles

  • 1 Tablespoon sesame oil

  • 3 Tablespoons Worcestershire

  • 6 Tablespoons mirin or yakisoba sauce

  • 6 Tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 can cut green beans

  • 1 can cut carrots

  • 1 pack shiitake mushrooms

Ingredients you'll need at home:

Get Real! Virtual Reality @ PPL

Come on in and give Virtual Reality (VR) a try! We have Oculus Rift and/or Quest–virtual reality visors and handsets for the full VR experience. Walk on Mars, visit the International Space Station, do some guided meditation, or try any of our many other available VR experiences. Improve your health and well-being! For ages 13+. Register for a 25-minute time slot.


Each reservation will indicate a start time, and the session will end 25 minutes after, to give staff time to sanitize the equipment for the next user. We'll take walk-ins if there are no-shows or cancellations.
