Cooking Class for Teens. Cook up a tasty dish with ingredients from the pantry. Teens only.
In this month's lesson, we are celebrating Black History Month and will be making and learning about calas rice fritters.
If needed, supplies are available for pickup from Hastings Branch Library only. Please refer to the equipment, ingredients list, and confirmation email for further instructions to ensure you're prepared for the lesson.
Ingredients included in the pickup kit (or you can get your own):
- 3 large eggs
- 2 cups of cooked rice, cooled (about 3/4 cup uncooked rice)
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 cup flour
- Oil, for deep-frying (approx. 2 cups)
- 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
